Meet our Canadian stockist: Lil Bubba's Boutique
I’m pretty selective about the brands we carry in the boutique and I do a lot of research on the brands before we decide to carry them. It’s very important to me that we carry brands with similar core values to us and that I can feel positive about who we are supporting.
Primarily, I look for brands that value their products being ethically made throughout the entire process as well as brands that have a sense of social responsibility and care about slow sustainable fashion. On a personal level, it is also very important to me that I feel as though I have a relationship with the actual people behind the brand.
That’s one of my favorite things about ANARKID. I’ve adored getting to know you and can feel the love you have for your retailers. It feels like it’s so much more than just a business partnership, it’s two people with a passion who want to support and see each other grow and succeed.
What colours and themes are inspiring your curation at the moment?
I feel like after the year we’ve had, we need some fun playful times but also it’s important that we live and do things with a purpose. In the shop right now we’re adding a little bit of cutesy playfulness but also gravitating towards pieces and collections with a message.
Tell us something that might surprise us about running an online children’s fashion store.
Even though it’s all online, it’s still very chaotic and busy. Often people say, “oh how nice you can stay home while you run your store” or there’s this impression that everything kind of just happens at my own pace. It’s so the opposite!
It’s a beautiful disaster most of the time. It’s me in my sweatpants and yesterday's make-up packing orders in the morning while my littlest eats his breakfast. Or answering emails while I cook supper and being asked “is it done yet” for the 15th hundredth time. It’s a lot of juggling and multitasking but it’s at least never boring!
How did COVID-19 impact your store?
It definitely forced us to pivot in how we approach our business and forced us to be a bit more flexible. Generally we do a lot of markets and pop-up shops but of course with COVID-19 all these were shut down and so we had to re-strategize how we were going to connect with our customers in a meaningful way. This actually brought about some positive changes for us in that it encouraged me to become more active and personable in our social media accounts, doing more live videos and finding more creative ways to connect. Luckily we have a very supportive customer base who really helped us make it through this past year by sharing our media posts, referring friends and just really helping to encourage us to persevere through. Honestly, if it wasn’t for our supportive base, I’m not sure our store would have made it through.
What is your favourite Anarkid piece from our Artivist collection and why do you think your customers will love it?
Oh this is a hard one! I am obsessed with the color changing pieces and can’t wait for them to arrive in store. They bring me right back to my youth and my favourite color change t-shirt I had.
I really, really love the Peace Off and Refuse to be Quite pieces as well. I think their timing is perfect and our youth need to use their voices and demand for change more than ever. I think they’re very powerful pieces, especially given the current climate in the world. These two pieces are probably my favorite in the entire store right now.
I’m sure our customers will love all these pieces, ANARKID has become a fan fave in our shop with it’s fun yet edgy pieces. They’re so unique and the quality is always A+.
